The four-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme offers students the opportunity to explore and deepen their knowledge and experience in the scope of arts and humanities. The first year is a “Year of Exploration”, during which students are encouraged to pursue their own interests while also exploring disciplines that are new to them. There is a wide range of course options across different subjects, and students are required to take at least 3 introductory Arts courses, typically including the pre-requisite(s) of the programme(s) in which they may plan to major or minor.

At the end of Year 1, students will choose at least one of the Arts majors. The liberal and flexible curriculum enables students to develop their individual study plans within a guided and academically coherent framework during Year 2-4. They can pursue an additional Arts/ non-Arts major, or up to two minors. Throughout the entire undergraduate programme, there are ample opportunities for internships, study abroad, and field trips.

HKU Faculty of Arts - Faculty Global Exploration Fund

The Faculty Global Exploration Fund supports eligible students in participating in approved experiential learning activities outside Hong Kong, with a subsidy of up to HK$24,000 during their degree studies. Eligible activities include exchanges, visiting programmes, internships, field trips, and other academic or career-development programmes.

Dual Degree Programmes at HKU Faculty of Arts

The Faculty offers two four-year dual BA degree programmes in collaboration with two highly respected international universities. For the programme jointly offered with the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), students will spend the first two years in France and the third and fourth years in Hong Kong. For the one jointly offered with the University of California, Berkeley, students will spend the first two years in Hong Kong and the third and fourth years in the USA.
