Short Description
The four-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme offers you an opportunity to explore and enhance your knowledge and experience in the scope of arts and humanities. At the first year of "the year of exploration", students are encouraged to pursue their own special interests but also to explore disciplines that are new to them. There are a wide range of choices in different subjects, and students are required to take at least 3 introductory Arts courses, normally including the pre-requisite(s) of the programme(s) which may become the major or the minor studies.
At the end of Year 1, students choose on at least 1 out of 22 Arts major. Having a liberal and flexible curriculum, students are enabled to develop their individual study programmes within a guided and academically coherent framework at Year 2-4. They can select to pursue an additional Arts/ non-Arts major, or up to two minors. There are also ample opportunities in internship, study abroad and fieldtrips throughout the whole period of undergraduate studies.

HKU Arts Elite Scheme for Outstanding HKDSE Students (JS6054 BA)
This Elite Scheme is designed for outstanding HKDSE students who are devoted to studying in Art History, Chinese History and Culture, Chinese Language and Literature, History and Translation. Dual Degree programmes at HKU Faculty of Arts:
The Faculty offers two four-year dual BA degree programmes in collaboration with two highly respected international universities. For the one jointly offered with the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), students will spend the first two years in France and the third and fourth years in Hong Kong. For the one jointly offered with the University of California, Berkeley, students will spend the first two years in Hong Kong and the third and fourth years in the USA.

- "Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education” is referred to as “HKDSE”.
- "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.
- Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. The minimum requirement is Grade E.
Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results. Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters. Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
