CSE

Short Description

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) offers world-class education and research opportunities in areas such as big data, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, networking, graphics, social media, software development, and computation theory.

Students who enter the CSE Department can freely choose AI or COMP major towards end of Year 1 study.

BEng in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

This program has been established to meet the rapidly growing demand for skilled AI professionals in academia and industry. It equips students with a solid foundation in mathematics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, while providing the flexibility for them to explore the depth or breadth of AI specialties. Students will embrace a wide range of theories and applications, training them to become well-rounded and versatile professionals. Upon completion of the program, students will be proficient in AI technologies and methodologies, capable of applying AI principles and techniques to solve real-world problems across different domains. Additionally, students will gain a deep understanding of the ethical considerations and societal implications of AI, enabling them to make responsible decisions regarding its use.

BEng in Computer Science (COMP)

Computer science applies computer technology to solve important problems in the scientific, engineering, and commercial domains. Our BEng COMP program provides a comprehensive education, teaching the problem-solving skills needed to tackle computational problems in all core areas, including programming, data structures and algorithms, operating systems, and software engineering. Students can also explore diverse specializations of computer science, such as databases and data mining, networking, embedded systems, computer graphics, image processing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, computer security, and theoretical computer science.

BSc in Computer Science (COSC)

The COSC program is uniquely designed for students who want to pursue a double major in computer science and another discipline. Students enrolled in COSC are required to be simultaneously enrolled in at least one other major, such as Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science and Technology, Quantitative Finance, Quantitative Social Analysis, etc. Students who wish to pursue a double major can either start with Computer Science (COSC) and declare their second major later or enroll in another major and then add COSC as an additional major.

Remarks:

Students interested in exploring new technologies and emerging topics may opt into the Extended Major in Digital Media and Creative Arts (DMCA) or Sustainability (SUST) after Year 1. Students can only enroll in either one of the two Extended Majors. Those enrolled will take extra credits in DMCA or SUST alongside their Major Program. By following a structured pathway, students can complete both the Major and the Extended Major within 4 years.
