Short Description
Today, there is a critical need for flexible, incisive next-generation front-runners, who can tackle the increasingly complex issues of our times through the integration of knowledge and original approaches to solution-building and problem-solving. To help address this need, HKUST’s Individualized Interdisciplinary Major (IIM) was launched in 2015 as the first-of-its-kind program in the Greater China region to offer a non-traditional, cross-School academic pathway for exceptional Hong Kong and international students with the vision, talents and character to create their own study program.
At leading universities globally, such programs have established themselves as a superb option for a small group of high-potential achievers – those who flourish best by moving beyond regular curricula to fully engage their passion for a particular subject or a pace-setting combination of disciplines.
With unique specialisms and skills, and the ability to step out of established comfort zones, IIM graduates can initiate new fields and jobs, bringing resourceful insights and multifaceted understanding to community and global advancement.

- Candidates applying for admission to the BSc in IIM program are required to upload a Program Proposal to demonstrate how the candidate’s interests, strengths and experiences connect to the academic goals the student hope to achieve in the IIM program. The proposal should explain why the areas of study interest the student and what kind of courses contribute to the proposed major. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. Note that the submission of Program Proposal is MANDATORY; candidates who fail to submit the Program Proposal will not be considered for the application. - Interview is compulsory for admissions.

- Non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students may use an alternative Chinese subject, an HKDSE Other Language subject, or an HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese subject to satisfy the University’s Chinese language requirement.
- The result(s) of Liberal Studies in previous sitting(s) will also be considered in HKUST General Entrance Requirement. Level 2 or above is required.
"Attained" level in Citizenship and Social Development and the result(s) of Liberal Studies will not be considered in the admissions score calculation. - The above subjects refer to Category A subjects. - A score of 3 or above in Category C (Other Languages) subjects will also be considered as a 2nd Elective for programs JS5411 and JS5812.
Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
Once the minimum entrance requirements have been met, the best results achieved in all sittings will be used for calculating admissions scores.
